"Foremost among them is the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, a MoMA affiliate and Long Island City compatriot, which will display close to 60 new and original works born in the spirit of Matisse's and Picasso's act-and-react relationship. P.S.1's "After Matisse Picasso" opens Feb. 16 and features a collection of New York-based artists responding to their artistic forefathers. The paintings will be housed in the art center's cafe through May 19, the closing date of MoMA QNS' "Matisse Picasso" show. Serving as a kind of 21st century echo, the project has inspired no small amount of soul-searching for those involved."
