"So does Tennisport, a Long Island City club that may soon close. The 550-member club has 16 red-clay indoor courts and 13 Har-Tru outdoor courts, with sweeping views of Manhattan and the East River. It has been there 30 years and it owns the land, but it is considered part of Queens West, a 72-acre waterfront project whose plans for residential and commercial buildings include the spot where the tennis club stands. Invoking the right of eminent domain, the state has told the club it must leave the site by July 31."
